The Ambiguous Coil (2001) 5:00

Video- Shalom Gorewitz
Music- Christen Clark

After weeks of turmoil and the range of emotions most New Yorkers shared after September 11, I was able to do some artmaking activities leading to this video. Images were recorded along the Hudson, at the boundaries of ground zero, and near Newark Airport. After the panic, a tentative response. Like other work, it relies on repetition, association, music, and other structural elements to convey a semi abstract narrative.

A note on collaboration- Christen Clark, who composed and performed the music, and I have been partners on diverse projects for 20 years. He lives in Paris, France and we worked together using the internet.

Technical Information- Video recorded on Sony and Canon miniDV cameras, processed and edited with Final Cut Pro on Apple G-3 and G-4 computers. Original master is miniDV with a dub to betacam. Music was created with Apple G 4 and an assortment of traditional and electronic instruments and processors
