The Last Tourist, 1994 6:00 In 1993, during the period of the coup, Ramapo colleague Edouard Eloi, who is Haitian- American, and I went with Selden Rodman to meet Haitian artists and see the situation for ourselves. I made the "The Last Tourist" as a celebration of the Haitian people's love of music, dance, and visual art, even during the worst of times, and to add another voice in favor of taking measures to end the coup. When it was selected for New Television a syndicated program on Public and Cable Television stations around the country, I was glad that a simply made work about a strongly felt subject could be shared with so many viewers. |
