The title refers to prophesies of doom in the Bible that are often taken literally by fundamentalists. The threat of nuclear war intensified when Reagan was elected president, amplified by the religious rhetoric he echoed in his speeches. In light of this new reality, after the relatively benigned pietism of Carter, and an invitation from my old friend George Bobby Jones for a road trip through the middle south, which led to U.S. Sweat and Sign Off, which is a short commissioned music video of the longer work with music by Jimi Hendrix for the USA Cable Network's Nightflight Program. Images were recorded in strip mine coal fields, doomsday shrines, deteriorating urban streets, and struggling farmlands.
